About-Us

In 1969 a group of budding young footballers living on the Bourtonville estate, expressed the wish to play competitive football. To satisfy that need, our founder, Ken Smith and a few friends decided to form a football team for their sons. Little could they have known that 36 years later that this would turn out to be one of the largest football clubs in the North Bucks area. Moretonville Junior Football Club was formed in 1969 - although, in those early years, the club was called Bourtonville FC to reflect its origins and played their games in a field behind a caravan park.

With interest growing it wasn't to long before a second team was started, and by 1977 the club had moved its base to Buckingham Athletic FC. However, after three years the club had out grown the facility and their was a need for more pitches to accommodate the four teams then playing. In the early 80’s chairman, Randall Enoch, agreed to rent two pitches from Maids Moreton Playing Fields Association and, to reflect the change of venue, the club changed its name to Moretonville. By 1987/88 the club had expanded to 5 teams and was now playing in leagues throughout Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire and Northants.

Buckingham itself was also growing, new housing developments brought along more children wanting to play football and the early 90's saw the club steadily expand. With the club now running seven teams and Buckingham having a shortage of grass pitches, facilities were now becoming a major problem. The club was now becoming more fragmented with teams trying to find pitches where ever they could sometimes having to play many miles out of the town.

In 1998/99 the club celebrated their 30th anniversary with a gala day and the launch of their ‘Millennium Project’ which was to find a ground that they could call their own. Moretonville formed a partnership with The University of Buckingham to make use of a very under utilised sports field. With a long term lease of the ground and funding from the the Football Foundation and other local funding agencies in place work could begin - FOUR years after the project began. The five year ‘Millennium Project’ came to a successful conclusion and in August 2004 when the club moved into a brand new ground offering 3 full-sided and 5 small sided-pitches.

The first phase of this project cost in the region of £128,000 covering installation of ground drainage, car parking, equipment and other minor improvements. Moretonville is a FA Charter Status Development Club and now has over 300 members running 27 teams for boys and girls from under 7 to under 16‘s and acts as a feeder club to the two senior clubs Buckingham Town and Buckingham Athletic. Moretonville continues to develop and recently signed a new agreement to extend the playing facilities.
