We entertained a strong MK Athletic side at home Saturday and turned out to be our best performance of the season. From the kick off we attacked forcing an early corner although nothing came of it and it as all one way for the first 5 minutes until on MK Athletics first attack found the striker unmarked on the edge of the box to fire home. Rovers continued to batle playing good passing football however on their second meaninful attack MK scored a second after 15 minutes although the strong wind was behind them. To the boys credit we continued to play good football and were rewarded hen good control and pasing by Greg Chapman in the centre circle passed the ball through to Kieron Wraight to run on and score. Within 2 minutes hesitation in the MK Athletic defence allowed Dom Whewhey to nip in between the 2 defenders and fire in over the keeper from the edge of the box to deservedly pull level, however with 5 minuts of the first half remaining the ball was not cleared from the home defence and MK Athletic went in 3-2 up at half time. With the wind behind us in the second half we really fancied our chances and in an end to end second half both teams creatd chances before mid way through the half MK Athletic struck again to make it 4-2. Again the heads never went down and with 5 minutes remaining Will Bontrhone created the opportunity in the penalty area to fire home. Despite non stock attack for the final 5 minutes the MK Athletic defence held out. An excellent game of football played by both sides where a draw would have been a fair result n the balance of play. All players played above themselves but special praise toe Kieron Wraight up front who lesd the line well and used his pace to good effect.
