Moretonville Anti-Discrimination Policy
You will no doubt be aware of the shocking revelations regarding the racism suffered by Azeem Rafiq whilst playing for Yorkshire Cricket Club?
The apparent lack of action from YCC and also the weak justification from the other players involved was worrying and something that I feel is important to ensure that our members at Moretonville clearly understand our position on the subject.
This is set out in Appendix E of our handbook, but to summarise;
- Our commitment is to confront and eliminate discrimination whether by reason of gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion or ability
- MJFC will not tolerate sexual or racially based harassment or other discriminatory behaviour, whether physical or verbal, and will work to ensure that such behaviour is met with appropriate action in whatever context it occurs
- MJFC is committed to the development of the programme of ongoing training and awareness raising events and activities, in order to promote the eradication of discrimination within its own organisation, and within football as a whole.
Can I ask that managers brief our policy to the players and ensure that they are aware that ‘banter’ will never be an appropriate justification for such behaviour.
If anyone would like to discuss this with me or raise a concern then please get in touch or alternatively email our Club Welfare Officer, Paul Hubbard (cwo@moretonville.org.uk).
