‘We need everyone to play their part so that we can make this season a brilliant one for us all’: Welcome letter from MJFC chair, Claire Seymour
Dear parents, carers and players
Welcome to the new season. To the new families who are joining the club, we thank you for choosing Moretonville
Junior (MJFC) and we welcome you to the #moretonvillefamily. To the families who are returning, we hope that you
are as eager as we are for another season of supporting our children and young people to enjoy playing football.
It is with great pride that I take over the Chair role from Michael Turner. We thank him for all his incredible efforts
over the last four years and wish him a very well deserved rest from such a large role.
To meet the continuing demands of a successful and growing club, we have reviewed the committee structure and appointed two Vice Chair roles Greg Du Preez (Operations) and Dean Woodham (Football). Linda Woodham continues as Club Secretary, ably supported by an active committee of hardworking volunteers.
Several significant roles have become vacant this season, including the Treasurer role which I have vacated. We will
be advertising these roles through Team Reps and social media channels. These roles and the wider club (from the
coaches through to the tuck shop) operate on a voluntary basis and we rely on the generous time given to the club
by all who keep it running.
Each family signs up to 4 hours volunteering during the registration process and we will continue to ask everyone to find the time to help – everything we achieve is through teamwork.
Our continued thanks goes to the hardworking team of Team Reps who are the important communication link
between the coaches and the committee. They have an important voice, which works in both directions, which we
want to continue to hear. Thank you to Jo de Montgros for stepping in to lead the Team Reps group. Thank you also
to Paul Hubbard who continues in the important role of Child Welfare Officer ably assisted by Amanda Lee.
None of this can be achieved without the efforts of our amazing managers and coaches. As the season progresses I
look forward to meeting you and supporting you at your matches. You play such an important role in our children’s
lives and we thank you all for your efforts.
As you may be aware, MJFC is an FA accredited club which actively supports the campaign “Football Deserves
Better: ENOUGH is ENOUGH”. Quoting directly from the FA website www.thefa.com “Football has a unique
power to deliver amazing benefits to individuals and communities… it builds long-lasting friendships, teaches
leadership, resilience and inspires the nation.”
For all the good that football can bring, we have had examples of unacceptable behaviours brought to our attention amongst spectators, players and officials. While it is only a small number that have acted in this way, these individuals can spoil the game for everyone, causing children and young people to not want to play. We will be making a focus on embedding positive attitudes across the club and those that visit it. We will continue to reinforce the positive community spirit and role modelling opportunities that the sport and our club can bring.
This season your committee will also have a visible presence across our MJFC grounds. We are organising a photo
board in the clubhouse so that you recognise us and we will be wearing lanyards at the grounds. We hope that you
will share your experiences with the club with us when you see us. Please approach us with suggestions for how we
can continue to improve our fantastic club – and of course any offers to get more involved too.
We need everyone to play their part so that we can make this season a brilliant one for us all.
Kind regards, Claire Seymour chair@moretonville.org.uk
